Hey Everyone
Steven 'Madman' Lord sent through this weeks discussion. Here's his email:
This caused some heated discussion one evening on Epic
Should an "Elite Age Group" category be introduced with slots for
Elite Age Groupers and "Normal Age Groupers". This was raised because
it was felt that normal full time working Ironmen have no chance
competing against "Full Time Age Groupers" (like myself). Think the
idea was that you would chose to either race as an Elite Age Grouper
or normal one ... there would need to be incentives to race as Elite
Age Grouper - perhaps only age group prices / podiums for Elites.
This wasn't discussed on Epic but having thought about it more and
chatted with Jo we thought perhaps then you could have the following
at Kona:
Kona is raced over two days. Day 1 - all Elite Age groupers - go off
in waves by Age group thus allowing for a PROPER race for the age
groupers. Day 2 - pros off first, then non Elite Age Groupe

Tom sent through this weeks question, here’s his email: How do you guys feel on pros pulling out mid-race for non medical issues. Do they owe it to the sport and the age groupers to finish if possible or is it why waste the body if you aren't going for a win (this is their job and how they pay their bills)? In recent races we have seen pros stay in despite mechanical problems and pros pull out due to mechanical problems. just curious as to how you guys felt?
