Fox Valley Striders

About Us: The Fox Valley Striders Track/Running Club was started around 1971 and had evolved as a coed club from the formerly girls only Cardunal Running Club started in the late 60's and coached by Dennis Edwards of Lake in the Hills. Through association with Glenn Lyle of Elgin the boys/men club grew and prospered with many excellent runners from throughout the upper Fox Valley. Ken Englert wrote the first FVS newsletter in 1975 and it was continued periodically for several years. Also in 1975 Ed White organized the first FVS hosted cross country races which were held in Bartlett the first year and Elgin the next. The club hosted its first track meets under the guidance of Dennis Edwards at Cary-Grove High School in 1978. Glenn Lyle began a series of FVS road races which began and ended at the entrance of Pratt's Wayne Woods Forest Preserve, also starting in 1978. The boys/mens branch eventually dissolved in the early 1980's. The girls/womens branch carried on, but the details are unknown at this time. The purpose of this site is to share photos, data, and other memorabilia of what used to be.
