Hey everyone If you were a pro racing head to head in kona and a fellow competitor asked for a gel, salt tab etc would you give it to them? Kia Kaha Bevan and John

As a pro? I think it comes down to alliances and professional friendships and adversary's. Would Stadler hand off a salt tab to Macca if he had cramp? I would think not. But would Bozzone? Perhaps he would.

better physically on the day rather than because I had an extra gel for example. Equally, on purely scientific point of view by the time the salt/gel started to work you'd be way up road showing a clean pair of heels anyhow.
From a moral stand point, its the correct thing to do, if you were in situation, you know that when you get into bed that evening you know that have done the right thing by treating everyone you have met you way in which you wished to treated.
It's sport, not life and death. :-)
On another note guys - since my move out from the UK, life in Dubai is sweet, I'm training super hard, being coached by Jason Matters. I've entered Ironman China, aiming to qualify for Kona and it's all with the support of my boss and the school I'm teaching in (different to my last one then).
Take care.

My one experience with this came at a local race this past season. I had noticed a competitor with the bodymarkings in my age group prior to the race. He was decked out in our national (age group) kit and had a rocket of a bike in the rack next to me

I think that over 60 could be grouped in 10year age spans but not any lower than that. I think that this would allow more spots to possibly go to other races and larger age groups. Especially with adding more races lately, there can only be so many p

Over 60 could go to decades but over 70 should be automatic should they complete any Ironman under 16:00. In kona most everyone is off the course at that time anyway and I say if you are 70+ healthy and haven't made it yet then you are in. I would r

If you don't make it when you are young everyone has a chance when they are 70. Any more than 10 in any age group at a qualifying race is too many. If you can't make top 10 in your age group then you will have to try again

tried to bring the distances home by using local landmarks, swimming the Firth of Forth twice, cycling from Edinburgh to Aberdeen then running a marathon.
Whilst it was great raising funds for charity I also used it as motivation as to not back out when the going got tough. Thankfully that wasn't much of an issue but it was a great insurance policy.
With the advent of Facebook, Twitter and obviously Athlinks you can now keep people up to date with not only your progress but every single training session.
If that fails, then you could sell a kidney or spend the weekend at the local red light district ;~)

nd WTC would need to up their game.
I think more interestingly, there would be number of short course guys willing to sacrifice the end of their seasons to have a crack at a big money purse that required no qualification races.
For Kona you need to have been top 10 the previous year or win a slot from a 70.3 of WTC IM. If you could just rock up and have a go, then with its late season time slot and big money then you'd see some very fast times, and not from the big names of Ironman but from the short course guys.
If anything it would make for a far better and less predicatble race.

The world champs (Kona) needs to have the best in the world there otherwise it's just another race.

For me I reckon a 48hour team treadmill challenge (that you kindly namechecked on the show) finishing 1hour prior to the start of the London Marathon ranks quite highly on the quality training scale. I don't think a total of 42miles at under 10k PB pace in the 48 hours before a marathon is textbook tapering. Huge fitness gains though and I even took out fatboy Ramsay on the Mall ruining his finisher's photo.
