2mile Run/16mile Bike/3.1 mile Run

Sunset Sprint Duathlon Sunset Lake Bridgeton, NJ
Great race, this was an unexpectedly fast time race overall. I turned 50 on Friday. On Saturday morning I went down to Bridgeton NJ to the Sunset Duathlon and gave myself a Birthday present. At 8:00am I raced the 2mile Run/16mile Bike/3.1 mile Run course in 1hr 22min and 10sec which was faster than my best ever time on this course by 2min and 16sec (from 1:24:26 2005) AND I took 60 seconds off of my best time for that 16 mile bike course (44:50 = 21.4mph/45:50 in 2008)! Finished 16th place of 96 duathletes overall and finished first in the men's 50-54's - some 90 seconds in front of the second guy in my age group. Took an 8 mile bike split and found that I negative split the 16 mile course (22:50/21:58) despite what seemed like a head wind the whole way. There was one stretch of the course between 8 and 10 where I was pushing 53x12, the biggest gear I have. I was very surprised to be able to push the big gears as much as I was able to throughout the whole bike leg.

Last Sunday I came close to breaking 20 min for the 5k at Gettysburg then on Wed night I ran a 5:45 mile at the Harrisburg Mile and felt like had I trained for the mile I could've gone faster! Then the day after turning 50 I crush my best bike split here at Sunset while PRing the course overall by some 2 minutes. So I'd have to say that I had a pretty good 50th Birthday celebration this week!
