Wow - I guess congratulations on the decision. Now you are definitely going to lead the Nike+ distance challenges. You will need to run a lot :-). Hmm... I should book the Half-Iron event I decided to do in few months - also non-refundable. Way to go Stuart!!!

Jan, thanks, now it's set in stone; it's a case of finish or fail trying! My wife thinks I should be committed; she looked at me, sighed and said "don't you just want to have a BBQ for your birthday?" I would love to have a go at a Tri; the bike and run would be ok, the problem is I have the swimming characteristics of a large stone! Yes you should book your Iron-Man, it's amazing clarifying!

Sink or swim. I love it.

Good luck!

Stuart your comment about barbeque gave me a good morning chuckle. My wife had similar reaction when I told her that I'll do the 70.2 tri later this year :-). One must at least try - I may get burned trying, but I would hate myself if I did not at least try. I think I can finish it, I'm just little worried about the 56 miles biking after the 2km swim. I'm not too worried about running - I can always resort to walking for few minutes. Key is to stay hydrated and get some gels on the way. I next two weeks I'll start eating on the bike - that should be fun.

Jan I hear that pop-tarts in your shorts is the way to go, they'll warm up nicely over 56 miles, and everyone in your bunch will be insanely jealous when you pull them out - just don't sit down too hard!

I may try that :-). In any case I bouht few gels - never used them before. So we will se how I cope with gels on the bike. I found swimming, biking and running to be a great mix of sports. I do not feel tired when I run and I'm starting to get used to doing different thing every day. It is a lot of fun.

Jan, check out the nutritional items in my Gear section, they may help you dial in what works, expect it to be a bit of trial and error, the only other gel I have tried is the Power Gel and I really didn't like the taste of it.
