1. Pick the best "Answer"-- (funniest, smartest, dumbest) to discussion of the week-winner gets some love, large amount of money and/or coffee.
2. Trivia question's or Brain Teasers for listeners to research and send in Answers for love, large amount of money and/or coffee. Having just seen Bevans facebook he could tell us his wonders of the week and what people thought, like:
How long after you have broken up from a relationship should you wait before you put that you are in a new relationship on facebook?

In summary - more interviews - other than the scheduling, I think you can make it up as you go right? I have always enjoyed listening to the interviews that you have with all the different people, be it about nutrition, the physio guy / sports doctors, elite pros or age-groupers. Everyone has different ways and stories about how they have got involved in IM. I don't think there has ever been an uninteresting interview - so more the merrier - why not some interviews with the age-grouper-of-the-week, challenged athletes, or even those who cross the line around midnight - or who ever else you can get to front up on skype or in person.

I think you should record the podcast from dangerous locations, like whitewater rafting, skydiving, or dangling your legs off the edge of a flying airplane.
Seriously, what I actually wanted to say was something about that mouthguard you mentioned - were you talking about this?

Great material from your past shows: Product Reviews and of course, Rant of the Week!
Its a risk, but change the format to make a whole episode focused on a particular topic e.g. swimming - how to train, how to race, the mental aspects, techniques and drills.
PS - love the nickname... gives me instant cred!

Hey if you want an easy show interview Garth Barfoot - legendary ironman athlete. getting him to talk won't be a problem - getting him to shut up now there's another matter. Seriously he's great value.

How to improve the perfect? Difficult! :-)
I really love your ”on location” sections. Like when you were at Kona, or the interviews from “Epic Camp". Your talk to a lot of different people, at different levels… great stuff.

Interviews with the "ordinary" athletes out there. Pros and Epic Campers are inspiring in their performances, but the jo averages out there have some fantastic stories too.
I don' just mean "over coming the odds" kind of stories. There are people out there with great stories about travels and experiences at different IM races, learnings from IM and life in general, motivation for doing IM, 17 hour IMers who have to be mentally tough just keep going for that long and dealing with what the elements throw at them, etc.
I had the great honour of walking with and talking to some of the 15-17 hour finishers at IMNZ and learned something from every one of them.

How about a regular ITU roundup? They're the IM guns of the future anyway and you know John would love it.

Aim for 10 top interviews per year, start your P's a get those invites out - Lets hear from Dib's, she's just kicked arse in Abu D and looks like the only girl out there that will be able to give Chrissie a run for her money.
FantasyTri is a good addition, and lets everyone join in the Trifecta picks (they have a twitter account and facebook page).
"What's in John's pool section?" - a weekly round-up of dead or alive mammals floating in John's garden.
Guest "correspondents" - I've liked porno's little sections, so how about if people are going to an event and can do a 5 minute on the spot report then lets add it in. Maybe need to get the skype answerphone set-up or people can use their iPhone dictaphone.
IMTalk monthly challenge - Big thank you to Tom for setting up #winterswim on twitter - How about a monthly mini challenge, be it 400TT swim, 5K run, 10 mile bike TT. Listers submit a base time at the start of the period, then submit their best time in the 4 (or defined) week period. Best improvement wins, no prize but just for pride (as its un-policeable).
Apart from that, keep it up - can't believe its been 4 years!
Oh, how much to sponsor a single show? As well as one-offs and monthly recurring - how about a $50 (or whatever) sponsor the whole week - another fund raising idea brought to you by Fegan "Mr Consistency / Full Force / The Deliverer"

I know you guys seemed to think the first episode after John was back from Epic was a bit of a disaster. You didn't have much planned which is true, but it was funny as all get out. I liked it more than some of the episodes that you probably work on for twice as long. I think there are plenty of people out there who would be interesting to be interviewed even if they're not necessarily high level pros. Anyone at epic has got to have a half hour of good interview in them, no? Anyone who can qualify for Kona has a few things that the rest of us could learn from. There has got to be a bunch of this group listening to your show, let's hear from them. One other idea, there's often talk of the '4 years from Kouch to Kona Kwalification' I'd like to hear an episode with that 4 year training plan discussed in detail.

i think that you could add workout of the week. pick a swim bike or run workout that you like, speed, hills, etc and post that workout. you could also ask for listeners for their input.

I like 'The Terrorisor's idea... get a 17 hour IMer on there and chat to them.. not a 'this is all I can do' guy.. but someone who has had hard luck and suffered it out.
Fegan
3/15/2010
I don't want to hear from someone that takes 17 hours unless they're a challenged athlete or had a major mechanical or accident prior to the event - then its inspirational. There's too many people already who start out chasing the cut off. What have you got to learn from someone that, like the rest of us, has a job and family and wants to do IM but then aims for 17 hours? I could tell you how to do that - don't get up early, dont make any sacrifices, don't take time off work to fit in long rides, don't bother learning to swim etc. If you do a half, and it takes you 7.5 hours then if you sign up for IM you know its going to be a long day but hardly something to be celebrated.
Want to speak to someone thats been on their feet for 18 hours, then listen to someone that's done a fast double etc. That's worth an interview!

I'd like to hear more interviews with world class coaches or prehaps some interviews with world class single sporters, ie marathon runners or 10k open water swimers.

I'd like to be able to find a complete list or "website of the week" somewhere. Going back to show #1. Also I'd like the news section to be more about what is going on in our sport and a little less about race results. Discuss trends and stories affecting the personalities in our sport; like Crowy getting his bikes stolen of Macca puuling out of IM China.

Fantasy Tri picks in for Singapore 70.3 - Decided that I'll change tactics despite whipping the IMTalk boys last week.
I'm pretty web-literate but joining the series is a real pain in the arse - they need to make it more intuative. Although loving it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
- More interviews with coaches, top triathletes and cyclists, runners, swimmers andinspirational characters. Do your P's and sort out some big names for us - Crowie, Crissie (always good value), Lance, Brad Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, Alistair Brownlee - Eddie Izzard (42 marathons in 53 days with 2 weeks triaining), Rosie Swale Pope (She ran round the world!)
- Link up for a chat with the boys on the Marathon talk podcast who have borrowed your format but still have some way to go to match the high quality of IMTalk (episode 102 - Bevan you amateur :-).
- Advice for age groupers on building and following a programme that fits around work and family.
-Gear reviews - Review the gear and get the suppliers to send you some of the things you review so that you can give them away to listeners in competitions.
- Advice for novices who are on the path. How to get from the armchair to an Ironman finish line and advice on all of the steps in between.
Keep up the good work boys - Love the show.

Fegens earlier comments about not being interested in 17hr ironmen was outragous. Don't submit to this elitish attitude IMtalk. If IMtalk and Athlinks is to continue to flourish then it needs to continue to appeal to all levels of the triathlon commuinity. If Chrissie Wellington can return to the finish at Kona to respect the commitment that goes into any ironman finish then someone like Mr Fegens might do well to show the same respect.

I've stuck around a cheered the last finisher home and I've no problem with them taking 17 hours. Nor am I stuck up about it but in the same way I respect a 6 hour marathon runner for getting out there and doing it, I just don't have anything to learn from them. II love listening to the aspirational lifestyles of the likes of Macca, Crowie, Chrissie etc and I want to be inpsired by people with only 12 hours to train that manage sub 10 performances. These are the people that need to tailor their workouts to strip out the nice to haves and focus on the core sessions, who despite having families and demanding jobs still squeeze in tough workouts and still maintain some sort of balance. People who could, if given the oppertunity go 9:30 or even 9:15 if they had the luxury of less demanding lifestyle. Now there's an interesting interview, how does that person feel knowing that they'll never have the oppertunity to reach their full potential? How does that person feel chaisng Kona slots with so many full-time amatures these days? How do they strip back there training to dial-in on just the key sessions - more intensity, or consistency or with the help of a coach?
That stuff is inspiring and we can all take something from it.
Maybe we need a case study, find two people with only 12 hours or less to train, one who hits 15 hours + and one sub 10. The look at the differences and see if we can get the back of the pack athlete to the front of the pack.
Regards a middle of the pack Fegan

taking on someone as a 'development project' is a great idea. get a complete novice, set them a program, and get them to update regularly on their 'journey' would be great to listen to weekly.
given ive done one half and am targeting Taupo 2011 for my full debut i am volunteering.

Matt might have an idea here.... there was that British guy (at least i think he was) who got a 'job' promoting Hamilton Island in Queensland! Maybe you could do the same for IM Talk - advertise - apply, and then listners vote for who they want to see and hear and then the 'winner' gets, the advice, suggestions and coaching tips from IMTalk etc, in return for dishing up content that keeps the show spinning.

Firstly it's important that you just keep doing what you do. It's inspirational and much valued. Maybe somthing from the following list ...
Stuff that makes you time efficient - "Time Tip" of the Week.
Triathlete mag have a feature on folk that are attempting to qualify for Kona - you could do similarly with a "Kona 10" - 10 people with a stated plan in 2010 to qualify - who are they, where are they, where are they racing, did they make it, is the training on track - get each of the 10 to Email you a status report each week & update us.
X-Tri ... Leanda Cave and Julie Dibens - they must be up for interview.
Bring back Product Review Centre but maybe by having the manufacturer Skype you with the "low down" on a new bit of kit - but this could be as simple as "Why is Cervelo the dominant bike at Kona ?" or "How is Planet X able to deliver these prices ?" - the good thing is you guys know what you are talking about.
It was always good to hear your training build-ups & feedback when you were working towards Roth. Maybe a "Training Blues" section would be good motivation ... Having a tough week out there ? Share the Pain to Spread the Love with John & Bevan. Email training experiences - good times or that interval session from hell.
Finally : race reports. Short, structured and scored... an IMTalk Index of Excellence.
Whatever you do just don't stop doing it.
Johanna Parsons

How to develop a race plan, perhaps with interviews with top athletes who can talk through their race plans for specific races.
Another vote for gear reviews too - for guys and girls.
Congrats on a really great show!

Hey guys, you have been with me during training for three IM's. Started listening at show 49 and count on your humor, news, and content to get me through the solo workouts. Before you starting changing and adding just remember, what you are doing really works well. It's entertaining and informative. You could add a short segment on equipment care (do and don'ts)... Can I wash running shoes? How? Take a shower with your bike helmet occassionally, How do I wash out a wet suit between races? Why does every expensive pair of glasses break or diappear but a cheap pair of sunglasses last forever? Then you could have Bevan explain what he does and doesn't do and what happens.
Dave Pearce

Superb show... just about catching up on back issues. I like the idea of gear reviews, but maybe John would use it as an opportunity to big up the avanti chrono, blue seventy (although I have BS suit) and mizunos ; )
I love Johns rants of the week.. whether it be WTC or the city to surf pram debacle.. classic!! Maybe it would be worth including some users rants.. like swim pool rants - breast stroke in fast lane, the one length-arm flalling- muscle dude sprinting then resting for 5 mins.
Question and answer.. when is next run of cycle shirts?
