Ok, the Flipany 10k was a bad race for me. The day started nice and I did an easy 2 mile warmup. The race started about half an hour late, so it was getting quite warm, and I let myself be peer pressured to start out fast. The first 3 miles were at 8:45 pace, then I hit the wall, the race course ran out of water, it got really hot, and I could barely move. The course was along the beach, so when I passed a shower, I stuck my head under the water. I was really miserable and hot. I finally finished in 1:02, and I was really embarassed. Oh well, I recovered and learned or was rememded of a few things. 1) Remember to run my own race 2) if it's a new or small race, bring own water 3) a two mile warmup isn't necessary for a 10k race |
