I didn't do my run at 4:30 after work yesterday. Sun was pretty strong and I wasn't fond of the sunburn I got last week, despite wearing sunscreen.
I waited until 6:30 to go out to the trail and run the 5 miles the Dr. told me to run. I usually stash the car key in one of those internal pockets. These shorts didn't have one, so I tied it to my drawstrings, except I forgot to double knot. I got 1 mile before I noticed the key was missing. Turn around and look for the key or keep going?
I kept going. After I finished I came back and walked the first mile twice. No key. Not sure if it flung off or just dropped but I couldn't find it. Before I knew it, it got cold....and dark. I watched several cars leave, the people didn't look like they were respectable or nice enough to help. Finally a couple let me use their cell phone. I didn't know who to call. I only know about 3 numbers by heart. I called mom, no answer. Called Dan, no answer. Called sister, no answer (she was in class). Finally I called my parent's house because I knew my mom would answer the home phone which doesn't have caller id. She got in touch with my sister who was leaving class. The nice strangers waited with me and then decided to take me to my sister's where we waited for her to get home.
She then took me home to get my spare (she has a key to my house), and then we drove back to get my car, which luckily, the park hadn't been locked down yet. Needless to say I was exhausted when I got home. I ended up eating way later than normal and getting to bed pretty late.
Thank goodness for the kindess of strangers, or i'd probably still be sitting on the bumper of my SUV.
