WDYDT for Friday, October 31, 2008
It was a beautiful sunny 70 degree day this afternoon so I ran the 7.7 mile Busse loop this afternoon and knocked out a personal best 52:54. My previous best was 54:04. The pace was just a 6:52 pace but that’s pretty good without the Hardcore group pushing me. If I could run my 6:30 miles I do with the group on Monday’s, I’d run Busse in 50:03. Now my next goal.

Sunday morning ran most of my 18 miles on the hills of Barrington with Glenn and Joe V. The day started out cold with almost no wind, but the sun was strong and the day was great. It's nice to run an easy pace and BS the whole way.

I look forward to seeing many of you tonight at Dick Pond.

During a break in the snow at 7AM, ran 5 easy miles with the Itasca running club. Plows were out about 30 minutes before us. Timing was perfect. It started to snow again at the finish. Stuck around for coffee and BS at Starbucks. Will run long on Sunday at Barrington.

11AM rain stopped, ran 13 with Wes Benzon in Oak Forest including a couple miles of hill repeats. Ran the scenic 9.5 mile bike loop between 151st and 131st streets. Lots of forest, meadows, some hills, a ravine, and some bridges over flowing streams. Pace varied from 6:40 to 7:20 per mile.

Wes & I chased a coyote on our path for about 1/2 mile. Lots of deer too. Saw a guy in a skeleton jacket walking into the legendary (closed) Bachelors Grove cemetary ((Click for the Link ...)

By age graded performance, this was my best race to date with a 77% rating. Two points higher than my previous best.

Ran a 5K PR (18:41) today at the Itasca Dash for Dan race. There were a couple hills. However,it was nice and cool but windy. 1st sub 19 minute 5K. Took 4th overall. Ran alone most of the race.

Wow, what a perfect day for a long run in Oak Forest! A beautiful nature trail, no cars, no wind, bright sun and nice cool temps in the 40s. Did an easy 10 mile warm up with Ken then did 10 miles of hill repeats at my pace on the hilly section. Each hill repeat was progressively faster. Nice strong finish. Felt good afterward.

After Wednesday's 400 meter speed work at the track I could barely walk Thursday. Right ankle/lower calf is weak. Couldn't raise my right heel while on one foot. Rested again on Friday and ran 5 slow miles Saturday morning. Am back to about 50% power in that calf. Ran an easy 7.7 mile loop at Busse this afternoon. Feel bad about missing a long run this weekend. Think I'll be back to normal in a couple days. Will think twice about how I run on the speed days.
