(Click for the Link ...) hours, 10 minutes, 59 seconds….that was the cut-off time in order to qualify for The Boston Marathon. 3 hours, 10 minutes, 46 seconds…that was my ACTUAL time. That is right, I made it by a mere 13 seconds. The last mile was an all out sprint! This April, my family and I will be traveling to Boston. I will be running and my family will be cheering. I run for multiple reasons. One…I really enjoy the outdoors and the solitude that comes with a long 20 mile run. It gives me time to myself and reflect on my life. Two…It keeps me in shape and I like the health benefits. As some of you already know, my mother passed away June 10th, 2008 from cancer. I grew up playing soccer and I can still hear my mother yell “beat them with your feet”. By this, she meant quit talking smack and just play soccer. On every run I do, I can picture her yelling this to me. However, I now relate it to running. Hearing her say this motivates me to run stronger, better, and faster. I said “beat them with your feet” to myself at least 20 times during the last mile of that marathon. My mother is gone now and nothing can bring her back. Cancer is here and cannot be cured…YET. One of my goals for the Boston Marathon is to raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Lance and his foundation has raised over 250 million dollars for cancer research. My goal is to raise $5000 for his foundation…for cancer research. Please donate and feel free to forward to your friends and family.Thank you ---Dan Brinkman
