David Wrenn is a MemberDavid Wrenn

Age: 42 Gender: Male Norman, Oklahoma, USA
For most of my life, I've tried to exercise regularly through martial arts, weightlifting, racquetball, yoga, walking, running, bicycling. Overweight and prompted by a friend, I ran an 8K road race on Jan. 1, 2004 (45:06 finish) and another, Jan. 1, 2005. After each of those two races, I decided to try to run more races, but didn't until November 2005, when I ran my first 5K road race. I wasn't at the starting line when the gun went off, costing me about a minute. I finished the race at 25:25. Although overweight, I was actually in good shape. After that race, I decided to see how much I could improve, and how much my natural sprinting ability could translate into long distance running. Under the assumption that exercising and eating sensibly are necessary evils, I've found scheduling road races gives me extra motivation to do so. I've improved, but I won't be satisfied with my finishing times until I cut ten minutes off my 5K time from that November 2005 race.
My road race personal records are
5K: 16:35 (9/5/09, Brookhaven Run)
8K: 28:08 (3/14/09, St. Paddy's Race of the Great Plains)
10K: 35:03 (10/10/09, Tulsa Zoo Run)
12K: 43:01 (11/14/09, Race for Hope)
15K: 53:58 (10/31/09, Tulsa Run)
Half marathon: 1:18:59 (10/10/09, Reuel Little Classic)

(What did you do today?)
I won the Race for Hope USATF Oklahoma 12K state championship, finishing in 43:01. I fell short of my goal time but accomplished my chief goal for this race: setting a new Oklahoma single-age record.

It was nice meeting you at the Frigid Five, too, David. I'm sorry I'm slow in responding. I don't go in here much at all...more my husband's thing than mine. Did Dana send you your pictures?

Congradulations on your 10k victory. I guess the sore toe didn't slow you down too much. Keep up the good running.

WDYDT for Saturday, October 31, 2009
I finished the 32nd annual Tulsa Run 15K in 53:58 -- 9:53 faster than in 2007, when, on a different and terrain aided course, I finished in 63:51. In 2008, I finished in 57:00. The Tulsa Run being a unique distance in Oklahoma and being held on a hilly course, I don't know how fast I should have finished, but I was relieved to come in under a round figure. At about 12K into the race, I strained the crook of my right ankle, slowing my pace for the last 3K.

WDYDT for Saturday, October 3, 2009
I took first place overall at the 40th Tulsa Zoo Run 10K, finishing in 35:03. It was a redemption run for me. At the 2007 Tulsa Zoo Run, combating an abdominal cramp, I struggled to a 44th place finish in 44:03. While I fell short of my sub 35:00 goal, I can't help but like the exact 9:00 improvement.
