So, I ran my first ever marathon on 8/19/2007. I got up at 3 and waited for the 4am shuttle to take me to the starting line. It was cold but I was excited. At the pasta dinner the night before, I met some great women that were all very inspiring, including a woman who was running her 124th marathon.
Overall, it was a good experience. The race had a net drop of 3,000 feet, so sore quads were a virtual guarantee. But what I didn't anticipate was the fact that they didn't have Gu and the water/aid stations were so far apart. The combination of the hills and the temperature really got to me. I crashed at Mile 18 and never recovered. Perhaps I should adjust my training plan of only run on flat roads in perfect weather (55 - 75 degrees).
