Aside from the obstacles , the terrain was rock strewn with both hard-packed and loosely-packed desert sand. Not an ordinary road-race for sure, the adventurous mud race was a great break from having to run a fast 5K at 100% effort. Even though this was Michael's first mud run in a running career than spans four decades, he may very well be back to run this event next year. Heck, it was fun! And isn't that what distance running is all about?

This is a must-run trail in Southern California: not too hilly, dramatically steep cliffs, water falls, a crystal-clear creek, a beautiful wooden bridge spanning over Deep Creek, and a hot springs. But beware of mountain lions and rattlesnakes!
