Can the 405 detect other HR monitors, like the one from my Octane? I didn't get mine with HR monitor.

Michael I am reading words directly from my Garmin 405 owners manual which says The forerunner is waterproof to IEC Standards 60529 IPX7. It can withstand immersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. Prolonged submersion can cause damage to the unit

. After submersion, be certain to wipe dry and air dry to the unit before using or charging. Caution the Forerunner is not intended to be used while swimming. Swimming or prolonged water submersion can cause a short in the unit, which can in rare cases result in a minor skin burn or irritation in the area of the unit.
You are absolutely right I love this watch to train but it is not the best on race day.

Good catch on the 1 vs 3 meter depth. I do think that Garmin is overly cautious with the, "not for swimming warnings". I have known people that have used the older 305s in water for years and the unit still works just fine.

main reason I purchased my Garmin 405 is that I was tired of my Polar S625x only displaying m.p.h. on the run and not my pace per mile. Also wearing the foot pod on long runs was bothersome.
Denny: it didn't recognize my Polar HR, but the battery is a little old and might be dead so I can't fully test that for you.
