It took to me about 40 years to find out that I can run. Signed up for a local 10K in 2005 @ 39 and ran after a few miles of practice runs. It was back of the pack effort but felt great to finish the race. Started training in late spring of 2006 with 3 runs/week to improve the time in the same 10K three months later. As the training progressed, so did the goals. I was able to build enough in about 4 months to race half and full marathons.

Mini Report for Monson Memorial Half-Marathon & 5K: Half Marathon Added a Mini Report.
Sunday, 11/08/2009 — Monson, MA
This was a "B" Race for me.
I rated my performance a 3 out of 5.
Race Notes: Hungover from night before, too much DFH IPA. Would have been at least 3 or 4 minutes quicker on a warm day and hilly course.

Mini Report for Hatfield Lions Club Dan Barry Memorial Road Race: 5Mi Run Added a Mini Report.
Sunday, 11/01/2009 — Hatfield, MA
This was a "B" Race for me.
I rated my performance a 4 out of 5.
Race Notes: Paced more like a 10 miler, but happy with the outcome as my calves still weren't quite 100% from the marathon.

Mini Report for Mohawk-Hudson River Marathon 2009: Marathon Added a Mini Report.
Sunday, 10/11/2009 — Schenectady, NY
This was a "A" Race for me.
I rated my performance a 5 out of 5.
Race Notes: BQ!!!!! First marathon finish with only fluids as I had trained that way, hated the gels. I had a faint hope of qualifying for Boston (BQ) at MHRM as my foot had improved significantly after dropping out of DeMar. BQ is a compromise as my original goal of qualifying (to bypass lottery) for NYCM went out the window (need 3:10 for my AG). I started well @ Mohawk for the first 5 miles then got progressively slower till mile 20, clocking 7:59, 7:58 for mile 19 and 20. Since I was going *nowhere*, I stopped to look at my GPS and stopped planning my mile splits for a specific time goal. Just then, something kicked in and I started running well for the first time since the beginning of the race! Passing bunch of runners only helped me to keep up my new found *speed*. I passed *a lot* of runners while not being passed by anyone else over the last 10K+. In the end I clocked 7:18 for mile 26 and 6:37 for the last 0.34 mile (not good at tangents) and pleasantly surprised to see myself BQing (qualifying for Boston Marathon in 2010 & 11).

I started well @ Mohawk for the first 5 miles then got progressively slower till mile 20, clocking 7:59, 7:58 for mile 19 and 20. Compared to the last year I was 2 minutes behind at mile 20, not a good sign. Since I was going *nowhere*, I stopped to look at my GPS and stopped planning my mile splits for a specific time goal. Mini Report for Covered Bridge 10K: 10K Run Added a Mini Report.
Sunday, 10/04/2009 — Conway, MA
This was a "A" Race for me.
I rated my performance a 5 out of 5.
Race Notes: Good effort on very sore legs. Started out slow as I was still beat up from DeMar dropout and the subsequent high intensity workouts. Glad to come close to the last years time after starting out slow on very painful legs. This workout helped to run last 10K of the marathon much faster a week later.
