Hey Dan:
Long time no talk. How are things with you? Are you still running much? Pool running? Hope your summer was good. It went by too fast.

Thanks for that info. I just started running again after a good 7 weeks off (aside from 1-2 runs). Starting how pretty slow, but overall good. I'm apprehensive about doing a longer run since the last long run I did was an 18-miler back in May. The thought of even 10 is making me sick. Slowly but surely I'll work my way up there.
Great job on the 15. How are your running legs feeling? Any up and coming races? I am doing a half out in CO while visiting a friend. It's not until October so I haven't started training. I'm still doing P90X, which is coming along just fine.
Thanks for the pool info. I will def look into that! How is the running in the pool class going?

hey Dan. I've been meaning to come to class the last few Thursdays, but just couldn't get up and out of bed early enough. I've decided to take the next 8-10 weeks off from running and just cross training and weight training. It's been over a week now. Very depressing the first few days, but trying to let it heal. We'll see what happens and HOPEFULLY I will be able to get to class this Thursday. I may wait for you and/or Tara though -- I'm not sure w/c one Linda is. Thanks for talking to her for me. Does she know who I am?

So last Tuesday, I ran my 5-miler and then I was out. My shin was in so much pain after that and I took off from running for the week. I still am. I've been cycling, running in the pool and weight training just to keep up and make sure I'm good. Anyhow, I saw a sports chiropractor who came highly recommended. He performed two tests: the tunic fork and ultrasound. Both came out negative for stress fracture and he says that it's a tibial stress syndrome a/k/a shin splint. he says to continue my running in the water and cycling and weights... but i need to get back on the road soon. He also did some Active Release Therapy (A.R.T.) on me w/c has helped and I am seeing him again on Friday. I think I'll try to see him a few times a week if I can. I'm feeling much better today.
I ran in the pool for an hour twice last week and two hours on Sunday. I'm doing it again this week and cycling. so hopefully I will be healed soon. I have another scheduled A.R.T. on Friday.
Just trying to keep positive.

Thank you for that information! It was very helpful. I went to the Sports Medicine Doctor on Thursday evening. Somehow after the running in the pool class my shin was feeling so good. Anyway, it's off/on sore. The X-ray didn't show any stress fracture, but again, it could be early on (w/c I'm hoping it's not). The doctor said it's a very low probability that it's a stress fracture.
I ran my 17-mile run yesterday and so far I'm okay. Was sore all around, but I'm certain that's normal. =o) Will do more running in the pool this week -- though I think my pool at the new gym is only up to 4-5 feet. Very annoying.
Thanks again for that article.

hey Dan. I hardly sign onto this thing. Thanks for that info. Training is going well, except for a sore shin. Just hoping it's nothing serious. I stopped in on one of the pool classes a few weeks ago. Thinking I might again just to substitute a 4-mile run. We'll see how that goes.
Hope all is well! Anything on your race schedule?

I heard at the Marine Corps marathon yesterday that pain is just the sign of weakness leaving the body... haha
