Dear Frank, On Sunday, April 13, 2008, the members of the JFK Rotary Club will be hosting their major fundraiser, The Thomas Carmody Memorial ~ JFK Rotary Club ~ "5K Runway Run" and we would like to invite you to participate. The first race was run in April 1972, it is a very unique race as the main runway is actually closed to aircraft landing and taking off. Aircrafts are routed to land and take off from a secondary runway during the race. During its history the race has never been canceled. The Rotary Club works closely with Airport authorities to ensure the security programs in place are strictly adhered to. Runners actually run on the longest Runway at JFK which is almost 14,000 feet, although only a short portion of the main runway is used for the race. The funds raised from the "JFK RotaryClub ~ 5K Run on the Runway" are used to support organizations such as The Gift of Life International Inc.; They sponsor terminally ill children from countries with limited medical and technological services, for life-saving heart operations., Futures in Education Scholarship Program; They assist families with limited resources in getting the help they need for their children to dream beyond the horizon of their difficulties. The Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf; They enhance the quality of life for people who are Deaf, or who have other special communication needs, through excellence in individually designed educational, vocational or spiritual programs and services, and other local and international charities. The race will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Bldg. 14 - JFK Airport; Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race begins promptly 9:00 a.m. Sign-up to run or walk in the race, family & friends are welcomed – strollers are permitted on the runway (register online or by mail visit www.JFKRunwayRun.org for more info).   Looking forward to seeing you on the runway. Added Comments for Journal Entry (Blog): "First Open Water Training Session"
Sounds like you learned a lot about yourself. I would have done much worse since I am not a good swimmer -- practically drowned in my 1500 meter swim at the NJ State triathlon. Good luck in June! I hope you can get at least a ...
