There is nothing more exciting that getting up in the morning of the race, meeting new first-timers, re-acquainting with friends and other competitors, the race itself, and finally, the thrill of the finish. And then afterwards, eating and drinking while exchanging the war stories about the event.

New Gallery: "Bridgeland Triathlon - August 9, 2009" Added a Gallery.
A sprint distance race, located in Cypress, TX (Northwest of Houston), is a 1/8 Ironman distance. The Bridgeland subdivision was a beautiful setting for about 500 competitors in almost every age group. This was the inaugural event and it was executed very well by a great group of volunteers and race director.

New Gallery: "Stephanie Johnson Triathlon - Spring, TX - August 2007" Added a Gallery.
Super fast, super sprint triathlon. Had a terrific time but must admit, would ALMOST prefer doing an Ironman than these super sprints. It was also very hot and muggy (Houston, August - what else is new?). Race benefitted cancer awareness and research and was very well executed for a first time event. Greg Johnson (race director) named the race after his wife Stephanie who suffers from Stage 4 stomach cancer. She is a remarkable woman (Greg's not a bad guy either ;)) and completed her first triathlon in this race. It was a truly emotional event and a number of cancer survivors participated in the event with great sponsorship and volunteer support.

I wore one in a half-marathon this past year (was 10th overall - best ever finish), but the course was entirely on the beach and closed off to traffic. The field was generally smaller too. I would not wear one on road runnin ...
