On May 16, 2009 in Bay City I finally won my first race and honored the memory of my dear friend Gary Bell. Gary was the one who got me into running and I've always wanted to honor him by winning a race. I found this to be very hard with so many good runners out there. I had finished races anywhere from 2nd and above. I never got a first though. I began to wonder if I would ever get this done. Then the Beach Wellness race happened. Of course winning would prove to be very difficult as my friend Jeff was on my back the whole race. Once I knew I was going to win I was overcome with emotion. There is so much work all of us athletes put in to perform our best on race day. When you get a moment like this it makes all the hard work worth it. I will never forget this day and I know somewhere Gary is smiling. It took more than 13 and a half years of races and training days but finally...for one day...for one race...I reached the mountain top. If I never win anything again in racing that's just fine with me. Beach Wellness was my one moment and I will cherish it forever...

On May 23, 2009 I found victory again in Bad Axe at the Pat Kellerman Memorial Day Race. Two wins in a week. Smile on Gary :-)

I am actually doing the Charlevoix Half Marathon saturday, then I'm going to do a duathlon on Sunday, however, Tim Flues, Brian Herek, and the other boys will be there at 8:30am at the YMCA on Columbus near Bay City Central High School. Be prepared for a battle at the Dow 10K just like last year, I am going to force you into your best run of the year, you will need a 37:58 to beat me, it will be fun though. I ended up doing ok at Bayshore, I was 1:24:13 which was 21st overall and 4th in my age group which got me a medal, since they medal top 5. I was a little disappointed I wanted a 1:22 but it was my 2nd best half so I was happy. See you in two weeks man, hopefully we can chat a little more. Nice job again in Bad Axe.

Thanks man the weather was a little crappy, but it was fun battling 2nd, 3rd, and 4th the whole entire race, the guy in 2nd edged me out by 4 seconds. I am hoping to be in the upper 17s for most of the year, after some constant speedwork and probaly less distance miles. Are you doing the 5K or 10K at Beach Wellness? I am planning on the 10K as of right now, little more bang for your buck. See you Saturday man, we will have to battle it out for the upper 37s if your doing the 10K.
