Mini Report for Boulder Peak Triathlon 2009: Triathlon/Swim 1500 meters, Bike 24.9 miles, Run 6.2 miles Added a Mini Report.
Sunday, 07/12/2009 — Boulder, CO
This was a "A" Race for me.
I rated my performance a 3 out of 5.
Race Notes: The "Peak" is always a tough race between the 15% grade up old stage road on the bike to the just about guaranteed heat during the run. This year's race turned out to be cooler than in years past so I thought I had a good chance at a new PR. Unfortunatley it didn't happen... For one, the swim went slower than in previous years but it looks like everyone's time was slower. This may be due to different couse measuring this year? The bike went about average for me, however, I had to make a port-o-potty stop before starting the run that added time to my T2 (Oh well). During the run I got a couple of side stitches that slowed me down, along with drinking too much at mile #1 from the water bottle I took with me out of transition. Overall it turned out to be an average race for me with another finish in the middle of the pack for my age group.

Mini Report for Wild On Windsor Triathlon ~ 2009: Olympic Triathlon- Swim 1500M, Bike 24.9Mi, Run 6.2Mi Added a Mini Report.
Sunday, 08/30/2009 — Windsor, CO
This was a "A" Race for me.
I rated my performance a 5 out of 5.
Race Notes: I went into this race completely unsure how I would do. After severly spraining my ankle during a race in Highlands Ranch on July 18th, I hadn't really done any running in 6 weeks. In fact, the only time I made much attempt to run at all was the Thursday before this race when I ran maybe 25 minutes, and some of that included walking.
My initial intent was to complete the swim and the bike and then drop out rather than risk re-injuring my ankle during the run.
Well one thing led to another and I completed all 3 segments. The swim went very well, as I believe I finished in the top 20% or so overall. The bike went pretty good, except that it started to rain which made it difficult to see at times through my glasses (no sunglasses this time as it was pretty cool and totally overcast).
When it came time for the run I thought I would totally play it by ear and just see how it went. I mainly tried to take a conservative pace to see if I could at least finish. Go figure, I ended up with my best 10K run ever for an Olympic distance triathlon (no doubt the cool weather helped). About the only problem I had was a blister on my right foot that slowed me down a bit.
Anyway, this was my fastest finish of the year at this distance so I guess you just never know...

WDYDT for Wednesday, August 6, 2008
SWIM ***NEW PR***
Total Time: 53 Minutes
Notes - Actually had a pretty good swim! Set a new PR for 800 yds in 11:41 (first 400 in 5:44). Then did another timed 400 in 6:05 trying mainly to concentrate on form as opposed to all out speed.
Injury Status: Afraid the foot problem has returned as a result of yesterday's run (uuuggghhh). Will go back to wearing the shoe insert for the next several days.

Total Time: 1:00:45
Workout: 1 X 800 11:58, 1 X 400 6:04, 1 x 400 6:01
Notes - Intended to do a couple moderate 400's but threw in an 800 at the beginning (the first 400 of the 800 was 5:58). Ended up being a pretty hard workout. Will take it more easy tomorrow.
