Distance running commenced with '93 Pikes Peak with 15 consecutive marathons there, however it's the recognition of purpose of running i.e a continual need to look at oneself..a need to keep working to keep growing, and be there for a fellow human being, stay away from any encounter which is not truthful, brings another person down, refrain from gossip at all costs. Don't let the salt in your eyes, physical fatigue distracts you from your goal to finish the event or overall goal of 1000 marathons in my case. Learn from each event, and keep applying George Eliot's quote of," Live to make the world less difficult for others", and Gandhi's admonition, "You be the change agent which you wish to see in others". It's only a marathon or an ultramarathon in the end. I never knew, I could come this far, or live beyond 10 due to seriious illnesses, and I know the challenges I've, and continue to face each day, but that's what growing up, overcoming, and endurance in trusting Him means to me.
