Martin, I am assembling a record breaking master's team for Ragnar/Phx. 2010 and would like to invite you to be on the team, let me know if you would like to join us, it would be an honor! So far on the team...Steve Rink, Steve Menzies, Carlos Mendoza, Jim Prescott, Dan Cadriel, Chris Standage, Keith Rieger, Jeff Bassett, Neil Young...everyone capable of 5-6 min. pace...maybe we can win overall? Hope to hear from you, thanks! Steve Rink

Thanks and I will let you know about the long runs. You might have to slow your pace down so i can keep up... Jim

Martin -    We will NOT be having practice this Tuesday (I have a class).  Next Tuesday, we start up again however.  Be VERY CAREFUL not to start back with any "intensity" or "hard" efforts too soon after a peak/fast race even though your motivation is high after your excellent performance.  I have a saying that others know well: "The same FIRE that makes you GREAT can turn you to ASHES if not CONTROLLED!" Strachan 1982  Your body needs REST & recovery to avoid future injuries.    "Back in the day", we used to have an unwritten rule: It takes TWO DAYS of REST (Easy Running & Flexibility + a few Strideouts) for EVERY MILE RACED before starting back into any high intensity training (example - Interval training).  I firmly believe this!  "It's NOT mileage that injures runners it's INTENSITY + MUSCLE IMBALANCES due to the increased forces applied to the body from an increased rate."  Strachan 1999    Science shows it takes 36 to 72 hours to recover (tissue repair via the Supercompensation process) after a severe exercise bout or race.  It only takes 12 hours to recover after a long easy run.  Distance runners in Arizona would be far better served to incorporate more easy distance runs AFTER races & in preparation for new racing as part of a BUILDING PREGRAM for HIGHER PEAKS & reducing the number of severe intensity training sessions (ie interval training/hill training).  If they did; then they could put MORE ENERGY & NET GREATER RETURN on those scheduled intense (speed training).  Instead, we opt for "more speed" at lower quality (due to muscle fatigue & insuffiecient supercompensation) + more potential for injury.  There is a time to race & a time to pace!    YOU WERE GREAT on SUNDAY - CONGRATULATIONS!!                                                 DO MILES!                                                                                            Old Coach Bill - AZTECH Racing Club O
