Rachel (Runnerchik) is a MemberRachel (Runnerchik)

Age: 40 Gender: Female Stockton, California, USA
I came into running at a difficult period of my life and fell in love with it. Running has most of all been therapeutic while at the same time given me the opportunity to get into the best shape of my life. I feel better at 40 than I ever did at 30 and I am stronger mentally, physically and emotionally. I am constantly challenging myself and have run 6 marathons to date and numerous other races. My goal is to someday run Boston, the American River 50, The Western 100 and maybe someday an Ironman... a girl can set goals right?
I run 6 days a week and typically take Sundays off. I typically do my long runs on Saturdays (10-22 miles) and run 3-5 miles every week day. Two to three times a week I weight train and when I don't weight train I take a Bikram Yoga class. Yoga does wonders for me mentally, spiritually and physically and the heat only intensifies the practice. I highly recommend it.
I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 35 and I am still learning how to deal with this invisible enemy that is set on destroying my body in the form of an auto immune disease. Statistically I am NOT supposed to be ruuning but I will NOT go down without a fight. I have good days and bad days...I run on the good days and on the bad days I strategize... :)
Aside from running, I snowboard, and in the summer I hike and mountain bike whenever I can although running is always my main focus. I love Athlinks and while I have used it to keep track of my runs for over a year, I have only recently decided to join. I love reading what other runners are up to as it keeps me motivated.
Rock on runners... perhaps I'll see you on a trail out there somewhere...

Sorry ,It took so long for me to reply..I have been working on fire wood and training at the same time..Just enough energy to crawl to bed...I want to do 1:45 ...The funny thing about running goals is you can never tell when your going to have that break through performance...I think that make us that much more amazing...How was your vacation Rachel?

We are up to 53 miles per week and training on a very hilly course. Lots of wild life and animals on the route, so it makes for a great distratction from the hills. We time ourselves at various places on the climb to the top of the mountain and if we reach the peak in good time, then the downhill is an all out sprint. Kind of a fun little game that we play to keep motivated. We have a race at the end of the month in Conn. It is very hilly, and likely to be hot, but it should be fun. The Fire Dept. does a great job and take good care of the runners. What is your time goal for the Half this year? Any sights on 2 hours?

Keep your mileage up....Rules of the running road 35 per week for the half and 65 per week for the full....Thats the minimum for steady progress...If your miles drop off to much you will suffer...Dont back off Rachel....

Today's 5K race was positively amazing!!! Prefect weather, pre-race and post-race festivities were an absolute blast, and my time improved once again...I ran a 27:27 which put me at an 8:45 min/mile! I am completely psyched...this new training is definelty improving my pace..my daughter also ran her very first 5K and her first race ever and ran it in 33:04...she is the BOMB!! No Excuses 5K is definitely a race I will repeat EVERY year!!

Race went well despite the heat (mid 80's at finish)...managed to shave off two minutes from last year's race...goal was to shave off more but it will have to do...running is a metaphor for life...one learns something from every race...there are valleys and there are mountaintops. I definitely took away more valuable insight from today's race and I will use it to stategize for future races and in particular for next year's Avenue of the Vines. Rock on runners!!!

Positively phenomnenal run this afternoon! Ran 5 miles in 47:50 which puts me at a 9:33 overall pace. Wow! This is the best pace and time I have had in two weeks! I feel great!!! I got new orthotics today (thank you FleetFeet) and the first two miles I felt no difference but the last three I felt so light and felt like I could run forever! Don't know what this means for Sunday but to say that I am psyched is an understament!!! Rock on fellow runner...I'm cheering for you!!!

Great 5K training run this afternoon...light breeze (Mother Nature finally got it together), sun on my back and a new route...anything to break up the monotony of the same scenery...I'm all about the scenery people...nice pace...feeling strong and excited for Sunday. I have a bunch of friends running this race and hanging out later (c'mon... it's at a winery...) so I'm looking forward to this one. Plus it's flat. HOWEVER, it is going to be a whopping 97 degrees...yikes!!

Hard run this afternoon. The winds were just crazy...nearly stopped me in my tracks...I ran at least 45 sec to a minute slower per mile...insane...Had to cut my run short by a mile so ended up running four instead of five miles so I could still make it to work on time...they don't call us weekend warriors for nothing...rock on runners...
