Since 9/22/2006
Database Diva
I was starting to feel old and achy, and knew I needed a change. I started walking, and eventually walked a half marathon with a friend. I thought it was fun, but it took too long, so I started running. Instead of following the traditional path of running, then running 5Ks, 10Ks, etc. I continued signing up for half marathons, running as long as I could, and then walking the rest. In 2006 I got serious about training. By 2007 I was running 30 - 40 miles per week. I had a few setbacks due to injury, but my desire to run was strong, and as soon as I could, I'd be running 10K daily. By the end of the year I was unable to make that kind of comeback. I had committed to a few races in 2008, but was unable to train for them. Now I'm starting over. A big week means running more than 10 miles. I don't know where the future will take me, but the one thing I've learned from the experience is that I don't need races, medals or finish times. I just need to run.

We went to Seattle and jogged the Walk for Hope 5K. It isn't fast, and there aren't any official finish times, but it is a nice event and it promotes a good cause. I limped across the finish line at 33:30, which is better than I expected.

Thanks Diva! Good to hear from you.
I'm sorry you've been sidelined, and I hope to see you at a race again very soon!
I'm planning to run the WDW Marathon with all the crazy Nike+ peeps in January. I'll let you know how that goes.
Take care!

This was a "B" Race for me.
I rated my performance a 3 out of 5.
Race Notes: Running up the strip and through Freemont Street was a lot of fun, and very motivating. The next 20 miles were mind numbingly boring. To make matters worse, my IT band acted up at mile 8, leaving me with an 18 mile walk through the indescribably boring neighborhoods of Las Vegas.

Today I had an MRI on my right foot and ankle, in hope of finding out why the plantar fasciitis and peroneal tendonitis aren't showing any signs of improvement.

I ran 5 miles on a track, with the sun beating down on me. This was my first 5 mile run in many months, and it was slow going, but I made it.
